Installing & Configuring Git

Twenty minutes, once per computer. After this section Git is installed, knows your name and email (which every commit carries), uses main as the default branch, handles line endings sensibly, and remembers your credentials so you do not type a token at every push. The last lesson checks that VS Code and IntelliJ IDEA see the same Git.

Before you start: The terminal for humans. You need permission to install software on your computer; on a managed company laptop, IT may have to do the first lesson for you.
